Ethio Telecom restores short code SMS numbers, operators must gain customer consent

Ethio Telecom has resumed issuing new short code SMS service numbers after they were terminated in August, Addis Fortune reported. It reinstated the service with a new control system that requires companies to send messages to customers who agree to receive the texts. The nation's telecom monopoly had terminated shortcodes that it had issued to 47 companies, stating that they broke the contractual agreements.
