Ethiopian govt plans to issue mobile telecom licences by December - report

The Ethiopian government plans to award telecommunication licences to multinational mobile companies by December, ending a state monopoly, Reuters reported citing three unnamed people with direct knowledge of the process. The sources said government officials have already looked at several potential options, including the sale of a minority stake in Ethio Telecom, granting new licences to multiple operators, or a combination of both.
