Ethiopian regulator excludes fourth operator for 10 years

Thursday 3 December 2020 | 09:49 CET | News
The Ethiopian Communications Authority (ECA) has decided not to let a fourth operator enter the telecommunications sector for at least ten years, Addis Fortune reported. The two new companies expected to enter the market soon will receive fifteen-year operator licences, enabling them to provide combined mobile, internet and fixed line services. The request for proposal (RFP) published on 27 November means that the two operators will only have to compete against each other and incumbent Ethio Telecom.
