ETNO lobbies against EU budget cuts to infrastructure fund

European telecom operators' association ETNO fears that high-speed broadband network development will be delayed by proposed cut to EU funding for telecom infrastructure, Reuters reports. European Council president Herman Van Rompuy's proposals to reach agreement on the EU's nearly EUR 1 trillion 7-year budget include a 25 percent cut to the EUR 9.2 billion earmarked for the expansion of broadband and digital networks. This allocation is part of a proposed EUR 50 billion "Connecting Europe Facility" supported by European Commission vice president Neelie Kroes for cross-border infrastructure
