EU approves sale of Open Fiber to Macquarie and CDP

EU antitrust regulators have given their unconditional approval to the acquisition of Italian wholesale operator Open Fiber by state lender Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (CDP) and Australian infrastructure fund Macquarie. In its decision, the Commission said the deal would not raise competition problems given the absence of compatibility issues between the local activities of Macquarie and Open Fiber, and between those of CDP and Telecom Italia (TIM) given that CDP Equity already had joint control of Open Fiber. The deal will increase CDP's Open Fiber stake by 10 percent to 60 percent while
