EU clears Apple takeover of Beats

Monday 28 July 2014 | 16:06 CET | News
The European Commission has cleared Apple's acquisition of Beats, the maker of the popular headphones and company behind the Beats Music streaming service. Apple first announced the deal in May for USD 3 billion. It still needs approval in the US before the takeover closes. The EC said there was no risk to competition in the headphones market due to the small market share of each company and numerous other competitors. In the streaming music market, Beats is not available in the EU.
