EU consumers get 74% of advertised broadband speeds

A new study released by the European Commission shows that on average EU broadband consumers receive 74 percent of the advertised speed of the service. xDSL-based services achieved only 63.3 percent of the advertised top download speed, compared to 91.4 percent for cable and 84.4 percent for FTTx. There are significant differences in the European national markets, most likely due to advertising practices, the commission noted. The average download speed across all markets was 19.47 Mbps during peak hours (19.00-23.00 hrs weekdays). This varied from 41 Mbps for FTTx to 33.1 Mbps for cable and
