The EU Council has approved measures to end geo-blocking and boost cross-border e-commerce in the EU. Under the proposals, providers of electronically supplied services, such as cloud services, data storage and website hosting, cannot discriminate in their terms and conditions or prices based on which country the customer is based. Notably, e-commerce sellers would not be allowed to block or limit customers' access to their website for reasons of nationality or place of residence, nor could they discriminate in payment methods offered to customers based on where they are located.
