EU data protection reform 'strengthens fundamental rights'

Last month's agreement between the European Council and Parliament on the new data protection directive serves to "give citizens stronger rights, allowing them to have better control of their data and ensuring that their privacy remains protected in the digital age," according to EC Vice President for the Digital Single Market Andrus Ansip and Justice commissioner Vera Jourova. In a joint statement released to coincide with the 10th European Data Protection Day, Ansip and Jourova underlined the historic nature of the agreement, saying it guaranteed individuals' fundamental right to data
