EU, Japan to invest EUR 12 mln in 5G for 2020 Olympics

The European Commission and Japan have announced joint investments amounting to EUR 12 million to develop new technologies designed to deliver faster bandwidth in time for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The partners will invest EUR 6 million each in four research projects to maximise the capacity of high-speed networks in dense user areas. According to the EC, the goal is to deliver "more than 1 Gigabit bandwidth for each member of the crowd at the Tokyo Olympic Stadium".
