The European Parliament and Council have reached an agreement on the revised audiovisual media services directive. This will notably extend the legislation beyond broadcasters to include video-on-demand and video-sharing platforms, such as Netflix, YouTube or Facebook, as well as live video streaming online. The Parliament said its negotiators managed to secure enhanced protection for children, stricter rules on advertising, and a requirement that at least 30 percent of content on TV channels and VOD platforms must be made in Europe.
