EU sees increase in major network disruptions in 2014

There were 137 incidents on EU communications networks last year that resulted in major or long-lasting disruptions to services, according to an annual report from the EU networks agency Enisa. This type of network disruption must be reported by the network operator to national regulators. Such incidents occurred in 24 of the 28 EU member states last year, as well as one member of EFTA. The total is an increase from 90 incidents in 2013. Almost half (47%) of the incidents were on fixed telephony networks, a change from 2013, when most incidents occurred on mobile networks.
