EU telecom lobby groups oppose ban on zero rating

The EU's main telecom lobby groups have issued a joint statement opposing a ban on 'zero rating'. Recent reports suggest that EU leaders are nearing a compromise on net neutrality legislation that would all some deviations from the principle, including allowing 'zero rating', or free traffic for specific data services. However, national regulators could be allowed to set parametres for when internet providers could offer faster or slower speeds or differentiated pricing for so-called 'specialised services'.
