EU to charge Apple over NFC chip restrictions - report

Thursday 7 October 2021 | 10:08 CET | News
The EU is set to extend its antitrust investigation into Apple's mobile payment system Apple Pay by charging the company with anti-competitive practices related to its NFC chip technology, according to unnamed sources cited by Reuters. Apple has been using NFC technology since it was introduced with the iPhone 6 but its use has been restricted to Apple Pay alone. EU antitrust regulators are now drafting a so-called statement of objections setting out their concerns, which is expected to be sent to Apple next year, said the sources, without providing further details.
