EU to look into Italy's national broadband tender process

The European Union's antitrust regulators are still looking into the conditions of the tender launched by the Italian government to bring high-speed broadband to digital divide areas, according to a document seen by Reuters. An EU spokesman confirmed the news, saying "the Commission is in contact with the Italian authorities on this issue," and adding that "this does not in any way prejudge the opening of any formal investigation." Although the EC last year approved the EUR 4 billion high-speed broadband plan, Telecom Italia has since asked EU antitrust regulator to examine a possible breach
