EU to urge action on fake news by year-end – report

Friday 13 April 2018 | 10:24 CET | News
The European Commission is preparing to draw up a "Code of Practice" by July that will commit online platforms and advertisers to take a number of measures to prevent the dissemination of fake news, according to a draft document seen by Reuters. The EC wants the code of practice to produce "measurable effects by the end of 2018" and is threatening regulatory actions if enough isn't done to remove misleading or illegal content. "Should the results prove unsatisfactory, the Commission may propose further actions, including actions of a regulatory nature, if necessary," said the draft.
