EU-wide 'WiFi4EU' hotspot initiative gets final go-ahead

The European Council has given its final approval to the new 'WiFi4EU' initiative to install free Wi-Fi hotspots in public squares, parks, hospitals and other public spaces across the EU. In a statement, the Council confirmed that the EU will sponsor the plan to provide access to a secure high-speed connection in at least 6,000 local communities across member states on a "first come, first served" basis by 2020.
