The European Commission has announced that it will be defending the open internet at the ITU's World Conference on International Communications (WCIT) in Dubai from 3-14 December. While some non-EU countries have tabled proposals for a significant increase in the scope of the International Telecommunications Regulations (ITR) treaty and the regulatory burden on operators, including ISPs, the EU sees no justification for such proposals and is concerned about the potentially negative impact on innovation and costs for operator and end-users.
