European Commission steps up pressure on Poland to ensure independent telecom regulator

The European Commission has warned Poland over breaching EU law on safeguarding the independence of the national telecommunications regulator UKE. In the latest escalation of the case, the Commission sent a reasoned opinion to the Polish government outlining why legal provisions amending the Polish Telecommunications Law that resulted in the early termination of the UKE head may violate EU law.
