European operators warn of dangers of 5G red tape

Wednesday 6 June 2018 | 09:08 CET | News
A number of European telecommunications operators have raised concerns about the continent's restrictive approach to the freeing up of millimeter-wave spectrum, which could hamper its ability to compete with the rest of the world. In an open letter published by the GSMA, companies including KPN, Deutsche Telekom, Orange, Vodafone, Telefonica and Telia, as well as vendors such as Huawei, Ericsson and Samsung said latest draft of the legislation on the use of the 26GHz band for 5G will severely constrain their use of the frequency and prevent them from building the best possible 5G networks.
