European Parliament approves cybersecurity directive

The European Parliament has approved the Network and Information Security directive, which sets out a common EU approach on cyber security. It lists critical sectors such as energy, transport and banking where companies must ensure they are able to resist a cyber attack. Under the new rules, they will be obliged to report serious security incidents to national authorities, as will digital service providers such as Amazon and Google if they experience major security threats. In addition the directive aims to boost cooperation on cyber security between EU countries. Following publication, the
