European Umobile consortium plans wireless web drones

A European consortium that includes universities and companies aims to bring the internet to locations without access to the global network, using drones equipped with wireless technology, reports Lusa a project worth EUR 3 million that is being developed by 2018, reports Lusa. The project is called Umobile. Lusa cited Ricardo Mendes, president of Portuguese multinational Tekever, a member of the consortium, as saying the aim is to bring internet to those places that, for one reason or another, either temporarily or permanently do not have any kind of communications infrastructure.
