Euskaltel to expand to new regions, reach 1 mln more fibre homes by 2022

Spanish regional operator Euskaltel said it’s aiming to use Orange’s FTTH network to expand its fibre coverage by an additional 1.04 million premises by 2022, up from the 702,000 announced back in November. Euskaltel’s fibre network reached around 2.3 million homes at the end of the third quarter, with the group hoping to add another 90,000 broadband customers to its current base of around 493,000 by 2022. 

To achieve that goal, Euskaltel confirmed it will be expanding from its main markets of the Basque Country, Galicia and Asturias to 5 new regions (Navarre, Catalonia, Leon, Cantabria and Rioja) using its Euskaltel, R and new RACCtel+ brands.

Euskaltel sales down 1% to EUR 686 mln, returns to growth in Q4

Spanish regional operator Euskaltel reported full-year revenues of EUR 685.5 million in 2019, down 0.9 percent year on year, but was keen to stress that fourth-quarter revenues were up 0.7 percent, compared to annual declines of 0.4 percent, 0.9 percent and 2.8 percent in the previous three quarters. The company's full-year EBITDA was up 2.4 percent year on year to EUR 344.5 million, with a 50.3 percent revenue margin, up from 48.6 percent a year earlier. Spanish regional operator Euskaltel has announced the appointment of Berta Alvarez Stuber as its new director of human resources. Spanish regional operator Euskaltel has announced the appointment of Angel Olabuenaga Buron as new Chief Financial Officer of the group. Olabuenga has held senior positions at different companies including Deloitte, Telefonica, Electrolux and Vestas, where he was CFO for Latin America. He will replace Jon Ander de las Fuentes Inchausti, who has been CFO since he joined the group in 2014.

Spain's R reaches 1 million fibre accesses in Galicia

Spanish operator R, owned by Euskaltel and operating mainly in Galicia, has reached the milestone of 1 million fibre accesses across the region. A total of 808,000 homes and 194,000 businesses in 134 localities can now access fibre-based broadband at speeds of up to 500 Mbps, said the operator, adding that it currently has around 300,000 fibre customers.

Spanish regional telecommunications provider R, owned by Euskaltel and operating mainly in Galicia, has announced the launch of fibre services in the locality of Morana in the Pontevedra province. Around 320 homes and business in Morana can now access broadband at speeds of up to 500 Mbps, with a further 620 to be connected by the end of the year. The rollout is part of a wider network upgrade covering 33,000 homes and businesses in the region.

Spain's R expands 500 Mbps FTTH network to Tollo

Spanish regional telecommunications provider R, owned by Euskaltel and operating mainly in Galicia, has announced the launch of fibre services in the locality of Tollo near the town of Tomino in the Pontevedra province. Around 400 homes and business in Tollo can now access broadband at speeds of up to 500 Mbps in addition to the 1,000 or so connected in the area earlier this year. The rollout is part of a wider network upgrade covering 33,000 homes in the region.

Euskaltel described the results as positive in what is the first full quarter following the implementation of its new roadmap to expand from its main markets of the Basque Country, Galicia and Asturias to 5 new regions (Navarre, Catalonia, Leon, Cantabria and Rioja). The number of fixed service customers in the mass market grew by almost 1,000 new customers in Q3, compared to the 6,000 users lost during the same period last year, thanks to the positive sales performance recorded in September.

Spanish regional operator Euskaltel has "a reasonable chance to capture a small piece of a growing market" with a TV-led convergent offering and a plan to expand throughout the territory, according to Eamonn O'Hare, the chief executive of its leading shareholder Zegona Communications. Euskaltel launches first convergent plans in Catalonia via RACCtel+ brand

Spanish regional operator Euskaltel has announced the launch of its first convergent plans in Catalonia as part of an expansion plan beyond its main markets of the Basque Country, Galicia and Asturias.
