Euskaltel to use Orange FTTH network in northern Spain

Thursday 16 November 2017 | 15:05 CET | News

Euskaltel has announced a deal to use Orange’s symmetric FTTH network to reach new territories in northern Spain. The cable operator is currently upgrading its network with Docsis 3.1 technology with a view to powering its 4K UHD pay-TV service and better competing with rivals but the new wholesale agreement will allow it to expand its brand to regions such as Cantabria, Navarra and La Rioja. The expansion will begin in Navarra, where the operator hopes to reach 78,500 homes by January, rising to 150,000 by December 2022.

The Basque group acquired regional broadband operator Telecable Asturias earlier this year for EUR 686 million and has now integrated the three major regional operators of northern Spain after buying Galician cable provider R for a total of EUR 1.19 billion in November 2015.
