Eutelsat, Masmovil ink deal to deliver 50Mbps satellite broadband throughout Spain
Eutelsat has announced a deal with Spanish telecommunications group Masmovil, the country’s fourth largest network operator, to bring broadband services to underserved areas across the country via the KA-SAT satellite. The service will be offered by Masmovil and Eutelsat subsidiary Eurobroadband Infrastructure, with the Spanish operator providing internet access at speeds of up to 50Mbps in monthly bundles of 30GB to 150GB at costs starting at EUR 37.90 a month, said the partners. Initially, the service will be available through Masmovil’s Embou brand but will be made available through the rest of the group's brands from the beginning of 2019.

In the statement, Masmovil said the agreement will allow it to achieve its objective of offering broadband services to the entire Spanish population regardless of the technology used and reducing the digital divide in Spain by bringing internet access to remote areas of the country.

KA-SAT was launched in 2010 to provide broadband services at speeds comparable to terrestrial networks across Europe, notably Spain, through 82 spotbeams connected to a network of ten ground stations.
