FAA likely to relax in-flight rules on e-devices - report

Draft recommendations made by an advisory panel to the US Federal Aviation Administration call for a relaxing in the ban on the use of personal electronic devices at low altitudes, the Wall Street Journal reports. Although the draft does not address mobile phones explicitly, industry officials say passengers are likely to be allowed to keep their smartphones on and use them when the aircraft is taxiing, taking off and landing, but not to make calls. The details of the recommendation are still being debated.
