Facebook acquires Instagram for USD 1 bln
Facebook has acquired the photo-sharing application Instagram for USD 1 billion. Started in 2010, Instagram offers a mobile application for Android and iOS phones allowing users to edit and share photos from their phones. The app has been downloaded over 30 million times. It will continue to operate as a separate service from Facebook, according to the announcement by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg. The transaction, which is subject to customary closing conditions, is expected to close later this quarter.

Instagram to add advertising on user feeds

The photo-sharing app Instagram has announced plans to increase advertising on its service. "We have big ideas for the future, and part of making them happen is building Instagram into a sustainable business," the company said in a blog posting. Instagram was acquired by Facebook last year for USD 1 billion and counts over 150 million users, but does not charge for its service. The company said it will start inserting "occasional" photo and video ads in user feeds, initially in the US in the coming months.

Facebook launches new photo-sharing app

Facebook has launched a new mobile app called Camera. Available initially for Apple iOS devices, the apps is expected to make it easier to view photos on the social network.
