The photo-sharing app Instagram announced it now has over 300 million users. Started four years ago, Instagram is owned since 2012 by Facebook. The app is focusing more recently on increasing contacts, adding a 'people' tab last month to highlight subjects to follow that may be interesting to the user. It's now adding 'verified badges' to help users ensure a person is who they say they are. The badges will apply to well-known names such as celebrities, athletes and brands. The company said it's also working to eliminate spam accounts on its service.
