Facebook board welcomes CEO of American Express

Facebook appointed Kenneth Chenault, the CEO of American Express, to the company’s board of directors, effective 5 February. Chenault has been chairman and chief executive officer of American Express Company since April 2001. He serves on the boards of IBM, Procter & Gamble, the Harvard Corporation and numerous nonprofit organisations. He is also a member of the Business Council.

Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg and Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey are not up for re-election for Disney's board of director, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing a regulatory filing. Facebook revamps News Feed to focus on friends and family

Facebook has announced that it's embarking on a year-long overhaul of the types of posts, videos and photos seen by its 2 billion members with a view to prioritising posts from friends and family over public content. "Because space in News Feed is limited, showing more posts from friends and family and updates that spark conversation means we'll show less public content, including videos and other posts from publishers or businesses," said the company in a statement.

Facebook to negotiate data traffic costs with Korean operators

Since 2016, Facebook has been in conflict with SK Broadband and LG Uplus after refusing to pay for a cache server that is used to save online content in temporary storage. Facebook only pays KT to use its cache server. Since the dispute, SK Broadband subscribers have complained of slowdowns in their Facebook connection on both smartphones and computers, as well as its photo-sharing app Instagram.

Facebook, Sony/ATV sign multi-year music licensing deal

Sony/ATV Music Publishing has announced a multi-territory, multi-year agreement with Facebook to allow the social network's users to upload and share videos from its catalogue on Facebook as well as its photo-sharing service Instagram and AI-based Oculus brand. The deal is the first between the two companies and comes after Facebook last month announced a similar multi-year licensing agreement with Universal Music Group for its recorded music and publishing catalogues.
