Facebook completes solar-powered drone test flight

Friday 27 March 2015 | 09:13 CET | News
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced in a post that the company had successfully completed the first test flight in the UK of an internet drone aircraft that can provide internet access to areas with no internet infrastructure. Speaking at the F8 developer conference, he said "The final design will have a wingspan greater than a Boeing 737 but will weigh less than a car. It will be powered by solar panels on its wings and it will be able to stay at altitudes of more than 60,000 feet for months at a time."
