Facebook develops 100 Gbps Ethernet switch

Facebook is testing a new Ethernet switch with 32 ports capable of delivering 100 Gbps, its global head of engineering and infrastructure, Jay Parikh, announced at the Structure conference. VentureBeat reports that although other vendors already offer 100 Gigabit Ethernet switches, Facebook shares its hardware designs through its Open Compute Project. The company is currently using 40 Gbps switches. Facebook has already built and shared designs for a top-of-rack switch called Wedge as well as the 6-pack modular switch.
