Facebook hires legal advisor to US State Department as general counsel

Facebook has hired Jennifer Newstead to be its new general counsel and John Pinette as its new VP for Global Communications. Newstead will succeed Colin Stretch, who will stay through the summer to help with the transition. The new general counsel is currently the legal advisor to the US State Department, overseeing work on all domestic and international legal issues affecting the conduct of US foreign policy. Appointed by US President Trump to the position, she also served in the Justice Department under President George W. Bush where she helped craft the Patriot Act, the Verge noted. The
