Facebook reduces video quality throughout Latin America

Tuesday 24 March 2020 | 08:56 CET | News
Facebook said it will replicate measures already in place in Europe and proceed to reduce video streaming quality on its platform and on Instagram throughout Latin America in order to conserve bandwidth in a region taking drastic steps to curb the spread of the coronavirus. "To help alleviate any potential network congestion, we will temporarily reduce bit rates for videos on Facebook and Instagram in Latin America," a Facebook spokesperson told Reuters, adding the company is in talks with partners to manage bandwidth constraints amid surging demand.
