Facebook unveils new Area 404 hardware research lab

Facebook has inaugurated a new 22,000-square-foot hardware lab at its Menlo Park headquarters in California. The new space, dubbed Area 404, is intended to accelerate the creation of prototypes for the hardware Facebook is making by bringing together the company's various hardware teams to work together. "With this new space, we can now handle the majority of our modelling, prototyping and failure analysis in-house, decreasing each iteration of the development cycle from weeks to days," said Facebook in a statement.
