Facebook working on cryptocurrency for WhatsApp transfers - report

Facebook is in the process of developing its own "stablecoins", a type of cryptocurrency, to be used on money transfers via its WhatsApp messaging application, according to unnamed sources cited by Bloomberg. Stablecoins are pegged to the US dollar to minimise the volatility experienced by alternative digital currencies like Bitcoin and the company is reportedly looking to first roll out the service India so that Indian workers abroad can send money back home.
