Italian operator Fastweb has received a EUR 240 million loan from the European Investment Bank to help fund the continued expansion of its broadband network, reports MF Online. The loan is part of the programme to reduce the digital divide in Italy, with Fastweb itself earmarking some EUR 487 million to double the speed of its network to 200 Mbps and bring fibre-optic broadband services to 13 million households and businesses in 500 cities by 2020. The company successfully applied for and received loans from the EIB back in 2009 and 2013.
