Fastweb, Samsung get go ahead for fixed-wireless 5G trials

Italy's council of ministers has approved the project proposed by Fastweb and Samsung to carry out trials of '5G' Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) technology in some Italian cities, reports website Key4Biz. The partners previously conducted a pilot of the technology in the 26GHz band in Milan, achieving peak download speeds of 1Gbps, and can now proceed with further tests in the northern towns of Bolzano and Biella after meeting the new cybersecurity provisions of Italy's so-called Golden Power legislation, said the report.
