Fastweb strongly rejects 'hidden costs' accusation

Wednesday 16 May 2018 | 15:42 CET | News

Fastweb has issued a statement strongly rejecting the accusation of the National Consumers Union (UNC) that all major Italian operators – including Telecom Italia (TIM), Vodafone Italia and Wind Tre – apply hidden costs that end up increasing the price of monthly bills by some 10-15 percent a year. The UNC filed a complaint to antitrust and competition watchdog AGCM against the “unfair commercial practices” of the operators with regard to the inclusion of hidden costs on monthly bills for services such as missed call notification, voice mail, SIM activation and even remaining credit information-

However, Fastweb accused the UNC of generalisation and ambiguous analysis, saying it failed to distinguish the commercial practices of individual operators. “Fastweb has invested resources and energy since May 2017 in the transparency and clarity of its relationship with customers,” said Fastweb's marketing officer Roberto Chieppa before calling for a public debate on the issue. The company launched a campaign called 'Niente sara piu come prima' ('Nothing will be the same again') last year, promising customers complete transparency, no permanence clauses and no hidden costs whatsoever.

The operator clarified that the only additional but fully transparent cost attributable to Fastweb was an annual charge of EUR 1.81 for the optional delivery of telephone directories to fixed subscribers, a service it would only be providing to those who specifically request it starting next month.
