Fastweb to expand fibre network via EUR 240 mln EIB loan

Swisscom has signed an agreement with the European Investment Bank to receive a EUR 240 million loan to fund the industrial plan of Italian operator Fastweb, reports Il Sole 24 Ore. The credit will be used to bring fibre-optic broadband services to 13 million households and businesses in 500 Italian cities by 2020, including 8 million via FTTC technology and 5 million via FTTH. The loan, which matures in 7 years, will cover half of Fastweb's network upgrade plans over the next few years and is the third such loan received from the EIB, following the EUR 350 million granted in 2009 and the EUR
