FCC chairman pledges to open up high-band spectrum for 5G

FCC chairman Tom Wheeler has pledged to make a wide range of spectrum available in order to ensure the US takes the lead in developing 5G mobile services. In a speech at the National Press Club, Wheeler promised a "spectrum trifecta of low-band, mid-band, and high-band airwaves". The low-band spectrum is coming from the auction of broadcast frequencies, and medium-band spectrum is included in the FCC's recent efforts on AWS-3 and Citizens Broadband Radio service in the 3.5GHz band.
