FCC orders US operators to suspend high payments to Pakistan
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has told US carriers to suspend payments to Pakistani long distance carriers for termination services in excess of pre-October 2012 rates. Vonage filed a petition with the US regulator following the establishment of the International Clearing House (ICH) in Pakistan, the controversial exchange for incoming international calls. Vonage said that as a result of the new ICH, termination rates rose by around 400 percent and the company therefore sought intervention from the FCC. In its order, the regulator said the actions by Pakistani long distance carriers is anti-competitive and has prohibited the payment of increased rates to protect US consumers from this anti-competitive behaviour.
