FCC to expand 17 GHz downlink, Ka band spectrum for satellite services

The US Federal Communications Commission has proposed opening up more spectrum for satellite broadband services. Subject to consultation, the plan is to make the 17 GHz band spectrum available for fixed-satellite downlink operations as well as create an extended Ka band. In addition, the regulator is streamlining its licensing process for earth stations.
