FCC to investigate Verizon tracking tool

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is reviewing whether Verizon's use of a tracking "supercookie" goes contrary to its consumer privacy and data security rules, The Hill reported, citing a letter sent from chairman Tom Wheeler to lawmakers late last month. Wheeler said that ensuring the privacy and security of sensitive personal information around consumer use of communications services is of the "utmost importance." Verizon uses a tool with a unique identifier that allows websites to identify the online user. The tool, which it calls a unique identifier header, helps Verizon
