Fifth of Dutch consumers give old phone to family members

One in five Dutch consumers who bought or was given a mobile phone in the past nine months passed their old phone to a family member. Only 3 percent of all the old phones were given away to someone outside of the family, according to research from the Telecompaper Consumer Panel. People don't just give away old mobile phones, they also sell them, to strangers (6%), people they know (5%) or to a company (3%). Only a small proportion of old phones are thrown away (6%) or used as a second phone (3%). Giving away the old phone to charity is not very popular; only 4 percent did so in the last
