Finnish govt commissions report on North-East Passage cable

Finnish Minister of Transport and Communications Anne Berner has appointed former Prime Minister Paavo Lipponen and former Managing Director of FiCom Reijo Svento to explore the prerequisites for international cooperation for the cable-laying project in the North-East Passage. The rapporteurs will clarify the extent to which the countries with an interest in the North-East Passage cable project are committed to the matter. It would involve construction of a new, high-capacity optical fibre cable between Asia and Europe.
