Fitbit ready to pay up to 40 mln for FitStar - report

US activity tracker hardware and software maker Fibit is preparing to acquire software developer FitStar for up to USD 25 million to USD 40 million in cash and shares, a person familiar with the matter told TechCrunch. Founded in 2007, Fitbit devices accounted for around half of all wearable bands sold worldwide in 2013, according to Canalys research. But companies including Jawbone, Basis, Garmin, Misfit, Mio and Microsoft have released activity trackers since then, and the Apple Watch is set to be launched.
