Fon, Landatel join forces to offer WiFi4EU-oriented tech

Spain-based Wi-Fi network Fon has teamed up with communications systems and value-added services wholesaler Landatel to distribute its Wi-Fi Service Management Platform (WSMP) to any service provider interested in taking advantage of the EC’s new WiFi4EU initiative to improve public Wi-Fi across Europe. Fon said WSMP ensures service providers meet all the centralised authentication requirements required by the WIFI4EU programme.

Specifically, the platform features a centralised management console that allows systems integrators to define and segment different networks, and to apply different access modes and W-iFi experiences on each segmentation. As a result they can easily manage heterogeneous networks from different manufacturers.

The new partnership comes after the European Parliament approved the ‘WiFi4EU’ initiative to install free Wi-Fi hotspots in public squares, parks, hospitals and other public spaces across the EU. Funds will be provided to finance free wireless connections in 6,000 communities throughout the EU.
