Foreign investment committee clears Sprint takeover

Japanese mobile carrier Softbank has received approval for its planned Sprint Nextel acquisition from the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States. The Committee finished is investigation of the proposed transaction between Softbank and Sprint and found there are no unresolved national security issues relating to the transaction. Softbank said it expects the transaction to close on 1 July, subject to satisfaction of closing conditions, including approval from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and Sprint stockholders.
