Former SK CTO to join Deutsche Telekom as VP

SK Telecom CTO Choi Jin-sung is set to join Deutsche Telecom to support its work on 5G development, the Korea Herald reports. Choi offered his resignation last month at SK and is scheduled to join the German operator as vice president on 17 August.

Speaking to Korean media on 31 July, he said he would "try to serve as a bridge between SK Telecom and Deutsche Telekom", which have had a technology partnership since 2015. Deutsche Telekom CEO Timotheus Hoettges is said to have personally offered him the job, after visiting Korea twice since 2015.

Choi worked at GoldStar Semiconductor and LG's mobile division before joining SK Telecom in 2012. He led the operator’s network IT convergence research centre since 2015 and played a key role in the launch of LTE-A, virtual network and cloud system technologies.
