SK Telecom takes up chairmanship of Telecom Infra Project

South Korean operator SK Telecom became the inaugural chair of the Telecom Infra Project (TIP), a global union of companies studying 5G network technologies, Yonhap news agency reports. TIP has appointed SK Telecom’s chief technology officer Choi Jin-sung as the first chairman of the organization.

Led by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, TIP is an organization that studies 5G network technology. TIP members also include Deutsche Telekom AG and Nokia Corp. The organization is made up of 43 companies, with SK Telecom being the only South Korean member.

"We aim to lead the global 5G industry through continuative cooperation with leaders of information and communication technologies, including Facebook," Choi said. SK Telecom plans to invite high-ranking officials from TIP members in June, and share ideas on cooperation with 5G network technologies.
